How much is your car worth, do you know? If you are looking to sell your car in the not too distant future, it is important to make sure that you do your homework and find out its value before you try and sell it. There is a wealth of advice on websites such as motoring.com.au where you can find anything you need to know just about any make and model of car that there is.
Not all cars are the same!
You may visit second hand car dealers and see two identical cars, but the prices are quite different. There can be a variety of reasons for this, and it is important to make sure that you know the exact history of your car before you try and sell it.
  • Make
  • Model
  • Year of Manufacture
  • Service History
  • Repair History
  • Modifications
  • Overall Appearance
  • Performance
  • Finance
All of these different factors can have an effect on the value of a car; and with so many considerations to take into account then it means no two vehicles are the same. When you look to buy a car this means that it can be a veritable minefield trying to get a good deal. Also for the sellers of the car, it can be very hard to know the true value of their vehicle without being an expert working in the industry.
Where to find your car’s value?
If you take your car down to your local dealer you may get told that your car is worth a certain value, but this may not be the true value of the car, especially if the dealer thinks you are going to drive a brand new one out of the showroom. Rather than drive your car to a showroom to ask “how much is my car worth”, there are plenty of websites available where you can find out the market value of your car.
How does it work?
Most websites that offer this service will ask for specific details of your car which include the VIN, year of manufacture, the model and the size of the engine. With all of these details, the software calculates the average market value of the car, and will provide you with a quote. You will usually also need to provide an email address as the valuation of your vehicle is typically sent via this medium.
The Drawbacks
One thing with these sites is that it does not take into account the aesthetic status of the car. If you arm yourself with your online valuation and then try to get that much when the condition of your paintwork is not the best, you may be left wanting. Ultimately when it comes to the value of your vehicle, it is worth as much as someone is willing to pay.
We all want to sell our car for the most amount of cash possible, and buy a new one for as little as we can. Do not be greedy when selling your vehicle and make sure that you are willing to accept a fair offer. Otherwise, you may be left with your car for quite some time.
